Root canal treatment in Lakeview, Mississauga

When the inside of a tooth becomes inflamed or infected, root canal treatment can help keep your natural tooth.

Signs to mention

Signs worth mentioning.

These signs can have other causes too, so an exam is always the place to start.

  • Pain or sensitivity to hot or cold that lingers
  • Pain when you bite or chew
  • A tooth that has darkened in colour
  • Swelling, or a small bump on the gum near a tooth

What to expect

Root canal treatment, step by step.

  1. We look inside the tooth

An exam and x-rays show what's happening and whether the tooth can be saved.

  2. We freeze the area

We numb the tooth so you're comfortable, and explain each step as we go.

  3. We clean and seal

We clean the inside of the tooth and seal it to protect it.

  4. We protect the tooth

Many teeth need a crown afterwards. We'll explain whether yours does, and why.

Root canal treatment may take one or more visits. If a tooth can't be saved, we'll talk about other options, such as an extraction.

Questions

Good to know.

Is root canal treatment painful?
We freeze the area first so you're comfortable, and we check in with you throughout.
Will I need a crown afterwards?
Back teeth often need a crown after root canal treatment to protect them. We'll tell you if yours does.
Does insurance cover root canal treatment?
Many plans cover it in part. For larger treatment, we can send a pre-treatment estimate to your insurer first.
