A small spot
Decay begins on the outer surface of the tooth. At this stage it may only need watching, or a small filling.

Prevention
A cavity starts as a tiny spot on the surface of a tooth, and you may not notice it at first. Regular checkups and hygiene visits help us find it while it is still small.

Left alone, a cavity can grow bigger and deeper into the tooth, and a larger filling may be needed.
Bacteria from a deep cavity can reach the nerve inside the tooth. A root canal may then be needed to keep the tooth.
The same is true for gums: early gum irritation often shows up as a little bleeding when you brush, and regular cleanings help keep gums healthy.
Every mouth is different. After your first visit, we will recommend how often to come in based on the health of your teeth and gums, and adjust it over time.
